Two-alarm fire sends plume of smoke over city

(WMC-TV) – A fire forced seven families from their homes as it burned through an apartment building in the 2400 block of Alcy in Memphis.

The fire, which damaged 10 units at the Alcy Garden Apartments, broke out around 12:30 p.m. Smoke from the fire could be seen by our High 5 camera in Midtown.

Several families had to be evacuated, including Lucille Patterson's grandson, whose apartment went up in flames.

"I told him he can get somewhere to stay," Patterson said. "God does things in mysterious ways."

Firefighters are still trying to determine what caused the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.
