One killed, five injured in violent weekend incidents

(WMC-TV) - There have been six violent incidents in Shelby County since Friday.

It began with someone firing shots at Cordova High School after a homecoming football win Friday night.

Hours later, police said two or three men drove up to a house on the 1500 block of Victor Street, got out and began shooting.  One woman inside was hit by flying glass.

Saturday morning, police said suspects followed a woman home and shot her through her front door.  It happened in the 200 block of West Dison.  She was hospitalized in critical condition.

Saturday night, a man was stabbed to death outside Watkins Express Market on the 3700 block of Watkins.

Early Sunday morning a 67-year-old man said robbers came into his apartment on Champions Drive and assaulted him with a golf putter.  The robbers took camera equipment, a TV, his wallet, and cell phone.

The suspects then took off in his truck.  Dispatchers used OnStar to locate the truck on the 3700 block of Kerwin.

Around 11:00 a.m. Sunday, a man shot a mother and another man in front of the woman's three children.

"I was in my bedroom and I heard a car peel out," said a witness who asked to remain anonymous.  "I went to the window in my bedroom, and I just heard shots.  Then when I looked again, the truck was gone."

Five people were wounded and one person was killed in the violent acts.  Out of the six incidents, police have only taken one person into custody.
