(AP) - Lane College in Jackson is opening a national alumni office on campus and hoping the move improves donations to the private historically black school.
A former home owned by a Lane graduate had been renovated for offices and will be dedicated at an open house on Friday, according to The Jackson Sun.
Alumni association president LaSimba Gray says a major thrust of the office will be to grow Lane's endowment, which currently has $1.9 million.
The dedication and open house at the new alumni center come as Lane begins its homecoming weekend, which will also include a parade, football game and dance.
The alumni association center is named for Etta B. Stinson Williamson, a retired school teacher who died in August at 106.
