(WMC-TV) - A Shelby County sheriff's detective was involved in a fiery crash Monday afternoon that may have resulted from another driver's episode of road rage.
Shelby County Sheriff's Office Detective Sergeant Trini Dean, was at the wrong place at the wrong time when he was truck by a car driven by Atteraze Buchanan, 18.
Witnesses said Buchanan was tailgating and taunting another driver before he lost control and crashed into Dean head-on.
"When he made contact both vehicles caught on fire," Sheriff's Office spokesperson Chip Washington said. "We thank Memphis police for reacting and pulling Sgt. Dean out of the vehicle."
Dean and Buchanan had to be pulled out of their cars. Dean remains in stable condition with three broken ribs, two broken legs and a broken wrist. Buchanan is in extremely critical condition.
