(WMC-TV) - Authorities found a body inside a car that was discovered in a ravine south of Millington Wednesday.
Investigators said it appeared the vehicle was headed south from Millington to Memphis when it somehow went airborne and landed under a bridge on Highway 51.
"A little after 3:30 this afternoon, we received multiple calls from individuals at the car dealership nearby," said Brent Perkins with the Shelby County Fire Department.
A lawn maintenance crew cutting down weeds for the dealership spotted the car, which could not be seen from Highway 51.
Millington police immediately began checking to see if anyone was reported missing. The investigation led to 38-year-old Ryan Walker from Cordova. His wife told Shelby County Sheriff's investigators her husband went missing on Friday. She filed an official missing persons report on Monday.
Traffic during rush hour on Highway 51 was backed up as the recovery was underway. Just after 6:30 p.m., crews pulled the car out of the ravine.
Investigators are trying to determine what sent Walker into the ravine. It is not clear what time or day it happened of if there were any witnesses.
