(WMC-TV) - It was a violent struggle, where an outnumbered store owner, his right eye bleeding and his face covered in mace, desperately tried to stop six shoplifters from getting away.
Jeremy Baer owns and operates Baer's Den, a men's clothing store in East Memphis. Around the time the store closed Wednesday, six people walked in.
"Five guys and one girl," Baer said. "Two of them went upstairs. Four of them stayed down here."
Initially, Baer said, they started shopping for True Religion designer jeans. Over the course of about ten minutes, several men asked the same series of questions at different times.
All of a sudden, they all bolted from the store, stolen jeans in hand.
"We're going through an inventory right now, but they had a couple garbage bags full," Baer said. "So we're trying to figure out exactly what was taken from the store."
Baer tried to stop them, but got punched in the eye and sprayed in the face with mace three separate times.
"I was trying to get the merchandise back while not risking anyone's lives," he said.
All six suspects got away.
"I couldn't grab anything, and then I couldn't see anything," he said.
Baer's surveillance system captured some images of some faces, which he hopes will be enough to get the group caught and locked up.
The group left the area in two getaway cars - a dark gray Acura MDX SUV, and a Gold Infiniti Q35 sedan with partial Tennessee tag "QVC..."
