Fire investigators looking into two warehouse fires

(WMC-TV) - Memphis and Shelby County fire investigators are looking into the cause of two massive warehouse fires that occurred just hours apart Friday.

A fire on Matthews burned three North Memphis warehouses to the ground.

Saturday, Memphis fire investigators turned to Action News 5 to review images from Chopper 5 that could help them determine whether the fire was intentionally set.

"Being in the helicopter, they would have been able to see that much sooner than anyone else on the ground," said Memphis Fire Department Chief Investigator Bob Pollard.  "They got there at the very onset and provided us with some good information on film they made."

Investigators are trying to determine if the fire in the vacant structure was intentionally set.  They asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.

Hours later, a similar scene occurred in unincorporated Shelby County, where a warehouse went up in flames just before midnight near the intersection of Macon Road and Big Orange Road.

Ten engine and ladder companies and more than 60 firefighters battled the blaze throughout the night.  A Memphis firefighter was treated on the scene for a minor ankle injury.
