(WMC-TV) - A familiar face found a new job Monday as former Memphis City Council member Brent Taylor was appointed to the Shelby County Commission.
Taylor a seat on the Shelby County Commission immediately after his appointment by a vote of 8 to 4.
"I have institutional knowledge I can bring to work from day one," Taylor told Commissioners.
Taylor was one of four possible replacements nominated to fill the unexpired term of commissioner Mike Carpenter. A fellow Republican, Taylor said his party affiliation won't play a role since he won't seek a full term in next year's election.
"My aim is to work with Democrats and Republicans to move issues forward," he said.
Taylor's appointment leaves the Shelby County Commission with seven Democrats and six Republicans, which could be key in several upcoming votes.
Taylor beat out three other nominees for the interim commission seat, including former Commissioner John Willingham.
