Dance ensemble performs for "Memphis: The Musical" cast members

(WMC-TV) - The cast members of "Memphis: The Musical" were treated to a special performance Wednesday.

Members of the Watoto De Afrika Performance Ensemble showed off their moves to cast members at the Orpheum.

Members of Watoto De Afrika have been studying Broadway theater and said the opportunity to meet and learn from the cast of "Memphis: The Musical" only comes once in a lifetime.

For weeks, the group has practiced their soul music routine and created a mock performance inspired by "Memphis: The Musical."

"We've worked really hard trying to make it exception for these people since, you know, they have been doing this for a long time," said Watoto De Afrika performer Cinnaeya Hicks.  "We want to make them feel like we can live up to their standards as performers."

Watoto De Afrika will debut their own show next February called "It Sounds Like Memphis."

"Memphis: The Musical" runs at the Orpheum Theatre until October 23 and tickets are still available.
