Three Memphis women injured in brutal gang rape and robbery

(WMC-TV) - Three Memphis women were seriously injured in a brutal gang rape and robbery, authorities said Wednesday.

The attack happened off Mount Moriah, in inside an apartment that belonged to one of the women.

While not entirely random, police believe the men - which included an uncle, a cousin, and a set of brothers - were virtually strangers to the women.

"Apparently they had met them earlier in the night, and had invited them over, and things went bad from there," Rudolph said.

The men involved included Brian Norwood, Antonio Howard, and Devan Denton. According to court records, Howard had a gun, which fell out of his pocket, setting a robbery into motion. The five men are charged with forcing sex on all three women at gunpoint, and then stealing a laptop computer and television.

One of the women was 'brutally beaten' with a handgun, court records say. She suffered 'severe injuries' including a fractured eye socket.

"The females that were involved went through a horrible scene that morning. And of course I wouldn't wish that on anybody. It's gotta be scary for them, and now they have to live with it the rest of their lives," Rudolph said.

Norwood, Howard, and Denton are scheduled to be in court in one week. Until then, they remain locked up on a one million dollar bond.

The fourth suspect has been identified as James Kerrigan, 16. Investigators know who the fifth suspect is, but he is not yet in custody.
