(WMC-TV) - The St. Louis Cardinals got some extra support Thursday as a World Series party was held at AutoZone Park.
More than 700 people showed up to cheer on the Cardinals at the party hosted by the Memphis Redbirds.
"I want to see the Cardinals win the World Series," said fan Sophie Townsend.
The party was planned as a way to say thanks to season ticket holders and to keep the interested in baseball alive during the Redbirds offseason.
"We decided to come up with the World Series party concept and that was of course before we knew the Cardinals were going to be in it," said Redbirds General Manager Ben Weiss. "The baseball gods were looking out for us."
AutoZone Park was packed with everyone from serious fans, to those just enjoying the food.
Fans said they came to support the Cardinals because so many people have come through the Redbirds program.
"A lot of Cardinals players have played here a season or two," said fan Jay Beeson.
Weiss said the turnout was more than expected.
"The response was somewhat overwhelming," he said. "We had to open up the third level of the building to bring in all the people."
