(WMC-TV) - A Memphis woman is recovering after she was shot Wednesday night in front of her Cooper-Young home.
According to police, the attack happened just before 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, as a woman in her early 20's returned to her Felix Avenue home.
There, investigators said, a strange man had been lurking in a tree-lined alley, and confronted her on her porch, just outside her front door.
Police the man demanded her purse, and when she declined, it set off a struggle for the bag.
As the man finally snatched the purse from the woman, he shot her twice - once in the head and in the knee.
"Like, boom. Boom!" said Cooper-Young resident Chuck Wenzler. "The two gunshots went off. She said, 'Help! I need help!'"
Paramedics took the woman to the hospital, where she is recovering in non-critical condition. Thursday, cross Cooper-Young, residents like Rob McGowan called the news unsettling.
"This is really not characteristic of our neighborhood," he said.
"It just makes it a little scarier," Ray Forbis added. "Shows you what can happen - anywhere."
Friends say this is the second similar robbery in recent days, and police have not caught the shooter.
