(CNN) - Your washing machine may be getting clothes clean, but a new study finds it's also polluting the ocean.
Scientists have found washing machines to be a source of "microplastic" ocean pollution, according to USA Today.
Polyester and acrylic are said to be washing off clothing, eventually ending up in the ocean.
The debris could be harmful to fish that can ingest the pollution.
It could potentially then be transferred to people who eat the fish.
