MIAMI LAKES, FL (WTVJ/NBC) - A Florida couple beat out thousands to get married on what some may call the century's luckiest day for love.
After 20 years together, Lazaro and Tania Serpa will be getting something they've never really had before: a real wedding.
"We just went to the clerk's office and got married," Lazaro said.
"Then he went to work and I came home," Tania said.
The closest thing they have to a wedding picture is a staged photo from Disney World.
They didn't even go on a honeymoon. Instead, the couple said they took a trip to Italy six years ago, with both of their daughters in tow.
Then their 19-year-old daughter entered them in a contest with a heartwarming letter, which beat out more than 21,000 others in Crown Plaza's "Marry Me 11-11-11" contest.
The Serpas will be one of eleven couples tying the knot in Time Square.
The couple isn't just renewing their vows on 11/11/11 with pictures and a video, they are also having a reception and getting a tour of New York City's most romantic places.
They are getting it all, including their airfare and hotel, for free.
Believe it or not, it's almost 20 years to the day.
The couple's marriage certificate from 1991 shows their wedding date as 11/12.
The couple said they really wanted to get married November 11th, but it ended up being a holiday, so they did it on the 12th instead.
This time around, they say the affair will be much bigger and even have invitations.
"Our daughters are going, my mom and dad, our nephews," Tania said. "It's going to be a big wedding for us."
