Lost dog found after owner's wife dies

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI (WDIV/NBC) - A 4-year-old dog will be making a more than 500-mile trek back home after wandering from Tennessee to Michigan.

A microchip in a terrier dog named Petey helped his 77-year-old owner find him after he was lost. The timing couldn't be better for Jack Arrighi, who lost his wife two weeks ago.

"My wife passed away on the 12th of this month," he said. "That was terrible. I can't handle that very good."

Nancy Greiser, a volunteer with the Humane Society in Michigan, will drive from Rochester, MI to Erin, TN to reunite the man with his dog. Greiser fosters dogs for the society, two of which she ended up keeping along with her own dog.

"This is one of those stories where, how can you not feel compassion?" Greiser said.
