(WMC-TV) - A massive fire broke out around 2 a.m. Tuesday at a nightclub in the 1600 block of South Lauderdale Street in Memphis.
According to fire officials, the size and age of the building made it more difficult to stop the fire and the intensity of the flames led it to collapse.
Neighbors in the area said the building was known as Club Layout and is rented out for parties.
Firefighters had to take a defensive mode on the fire as they worked to protect the home of Orlando Matthews, who lives next door to the club.
"It was a feeling of relief. I'm glad it worked out in my favor," said Matthews.
Matthews' home did not catch fire, but firefighters did go inside the home to make sure nothing was damaged.
No one was hurt during this fire and investigators are still looking for a cause.
