(WMC-TV) - A broken out window from an abandoned house across Manassas Street frames a perfect view of Humes Middle School.
It's where 40 year-old Jeffrey Fisher was arrested Monday after a neighbor alerted a passing officer.
"You know, that's a concern for every parent," said Anthony Hopper.
Police say they found Fisher hiding in the attic before learning he was registered as a violent sex offender.
"They need to screen these sex offenders more closely," said Hopper. "And find out where they at."
"He's considered homeless," said Lt. Wilton Cleveland with MPD's Sex Crimes Bureau.
He said Fisher, who was convicted of solicitation to commit child rape in 1995, is still not allowed to be near a school.
"You can't be within a thousand feet for any reason," said Cleveland.
We're told the abandoned house in which Fisher was found has long been a neighborhood nuisance. It's filled with trash, empty food containers, bottles, and used condoms.
Police say they found a crack pipe on Fisher at the time of his arrest.
Neighbors say the co-called crack house needs some attention before another potential predator moves in..
"They should board up the house so no one can go in and do such things like this," said Antonio Key.
"It needs to be boarded up or torn down," said Anthony Hopper. "If nobody's going to fix it, tear it down."
Jeffrey Fisher was charged with violating the sex offender registry and is being held on a $20,000 bond.
Action News 5 was unable to reach the owner of the abandoned house, which is a company in Hickory, North Carolina.
