Friends wait for information in search for missing Dyer County woman

(WMC-TV) - As friends waited anxiously for any new information, authorities continued to hunt Thursday for a missing Dyer County woman.

For Carrie Engelhardt, the search for Karen Swift has been exhausting.

"We want to know that she's okay, and it just breaks my heart for her and her children," Engelhardt said Thursday.

Swift was last seen at her home early Sunday morning. Friends say the mother of four children had just returned from a Halloween party.

Investigators say Swift's husband David, who she is divorcing, spoke to her at home, and then went to bed.

Investigators later found Swift's vehicle, a white 2004 Nissan Murano, with a flat tire in Northern Dyer County on the Millsfield Highway near the Harness Road intersection. She was gone.

According to court documents Swift filed for divorce on October 10, 2011 due to irreconcilable differences.

"I think she's kept it pretty private and quiet out of respect for family, kids, and husband," Engelhardt said.

Friends said this is the second divorce for the couple, who still lives together. David Swift has until November 10 to respond to the petition for divorce.

Action News 5's attempts to contact David Swift were unsuccessful Thursday, but on Facebook, he told a friend, "We want her home and love her very much. Preston, my son has been speaking with the media. My main focus is to working with the authorities to get her home safely. Thanks for the many prayers and kind words which is greatly appreciated."

As authorities continue to search for clues in Swift's disappearance, friends like Engelhardt hoped for the best.

"Karen, we love you and miss you, and hope to find you safe, and that you're home soon," she said.

If you have information about Swift, call the Dyer County sheriff at 285-2802.
