Robber shoots man in Southaven parking lot

(WMC-TV) - Police in Southaven are looking for two suspects responsible for robbing and then shooting a man outside a department store.

The shooting happened Saturday night near the JCPenny at the Southaven Towne Center.

"This gentleman and his date were getting out of one car into the other car, he was approached by two black male subjects that were both armed," said Lt. Mark Little of the Southaven Police Department. They demanded he give his money and cell phone up."

Investigators say the couple tried to comply. In fact, the male victim even offered to get the rest of his cash and cell phone from his car. But the two masked robbers snapped.

"One of them pulled one of the guns up and shot him in the leg," Little said.

After the shooting, the suspects ran from the scene. According to Little, officers searched the area, but never found the masked men.

Investigators are still trying to figure out why the suspects even shot the victim.

"We don't know why," Little said. "We don't understand why, if he was complying, that they would shoot him in the leg.

Investigators are cross-checking this case with others like it in Memphis, and are trying to determine if any surveillance cameras captured images of the incident.
