(WMC-TV) - Memphis police are searching for a man accused of luring teens for sex near two Mid-South schools.
Friday morning, a 13-year-old boy was walking to Hamilton Middle School when a man in his mid-20's tried to lure him into his car. The boy refused.
Twenty minutes later, near Lamar and Kimball, the same thing happened to a 17-year-old boy walking to Melrose High School.
"He's offering money for sex and doing some simulated sexual activity, said Lt. Wilton Cleveland of the Memphis Police Department. "He's an adult. He's soliciting sex from minors, and he can't do that."
Police believe the same man has done the same thing to at least five different teenage boys, luring them over to his car and offering them money in exchange for sexual favors.
According to investigators, the man is always in the same car: a purple, two door Chevy Cobalt, with Tennessee tags 460 NKS, or some variation of letters or numbers.
Cleveland had advice for children approached by a stranger.
"We'd like them to go to the closest business or if they're close to the school get to the school immediately and notify officials so we can have cars get to the area as quick as possible," he said.
Investigators say their goal is obvious - to capture a suspect trying to pick up kids, before he actually gets one.
