(WMC-TV) – A passenger was caught with a loaded handgun in a carry-on bag Tuesday night at Memphis International Airport, authorities said.
A TSA worker discovered the handgun in the passenger's bag just after 7:30 p.m. The passenger, who has not been identified, was cited by airport police.
According to the TSA, firearms may be transported in checked baggage if they are declared to the airline, unloaded and in a proper carrying case. They are not allowed in carry-on bags.
TSA spokesperson Jon Allen said this was the ninth firearm discovered at a security checkpoint this year at Memphis International Airport.
