Two dead in South Memphis shooting

(WMC-TV) - Blue lights filled the sky as police investigated a double shooting in South Memphis Wednesday.

"I heard eight or nine gunshots, then I heard a lot of hollering," said witness Kenneth Glaspar.  "I came outside and I saw the car."

The driver inside a vehicle that slammed into a tree was dead from an apparent gunshot, police said.  A few houses down, in another car crashed behind the first victim's house, a man inside was also dead from an apparent gunshot.

"We understand there was an exchange of gunfire between several individuals," said Major Charles Newell with the Memphis Police Department.

Investigators are not sure of a motive.

Friends of the man in the car that hit the tree called him "Blue."

"It's terrible," said friend Tijuana Buford.  "It's so close to home.  We kind of grew up together."

"Blue knew everybody around here, so neighbors devastated," said friend Marico Anderson.  "He was a good guy."

Friends said the man lived in a house with his grandmother and other family members.  No one on the scene knew the man in the car behind the house.
