Harris wins District 7 seat in runoff

(WMC-TV) - Lee Harris won the Memphis City Council District 7 seat in a runoff with Kemba Ford Thursday.

Harris overtook Ford, a member of Memphis' legendary political family, with roughly 68 percent of the vote.

Harris is a Yale graduate who works as a professor of law at the University of Memphis Law School.

Harris and Ford were the top two vote getters during the general election in October.  Ford brought the legacy of her famous family when she ran for the office.

Barbara Swearengen Ware resigned from the seat earlier this year.
