(WMC-TV) - The daughter of a woman killed last week in an accident on the Hernando DeSoto Bridge said her mother despised drunk driving.
Sabrina Rodriguez's mother, Sheila Ellard, died last week on the Hernando-DeSoto Bridge when her truck was hit by a car going the wrong way. The driver of that car, Kellie Isaac of Cordova, has been charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Negligent Homicide.
"My mom, she never held her tongue. She spoke her mind," Rodriguez said. "She despised drinking. She hated it. And that is the one thing that took her from us, was a drunk driver."
From jail last week, Isaac told Action News 5 she'd met co-workers for margaritas at The Happy Mexican.
"I don't remember anything," she said through tears.
Monday, Rodriguez said anyone who knowingly let Isaac drive also deserves blame.
"They knew that she walked out of there knowing she was drunk. They knew, and they just let her go," Rodriguez said. "She is the main one at fault here, but they all knew. They chose to disregard that. They chose to disregard another person's life."
Clutching a five-year old family portrait, Rodriguez said her mother's death was another simple example of how destructive drunk driving can be.
"It destroys so many people, and I hope nobody ever goes through what we went through," she said.
