$9,000 stolen during gas station robbery

Police in Colliervile responded to an armed robbery Thursday where thousands of dollars was reportedly stolen.

Authorities say the robbery happened late Thursday morning at a Citgo gas station in the 300 block of Poplar. Investigators say a money bag containing about $9,000 was taken during the crime.

"Wow, that's crazy," said Jennifer Smith-Lum, a customer at the gas station. "Unbelievable!"

Investigators said three men robbed the owner of the gas station at gunpoint.

"I don't understand it," customer Amanda Young said. "They need to get out and work for their own money and not rob businesses that are struggling to make it."

Employees at the gas station did not want to comment about what happened. Authorities said the suspect took off heading eastbound on Highway 57 in a black Pontiac.

One of the employees at the gas station refused to do an on camera interview about the incident.

We're told the three suspects took off in a black Pontiac. They were headed East on Highway 57.

"This is Collierville," Young said. "(We're) supposed to be well protected. Owners robbed in their parking lot...where were the police at?"

"It's very upsetting," Smith-Lum added. "I'm very sorry for the gentlemen that was involved. I hope he's okay."
