(WMC-TV) - Two children were briefly kidnapped Friday morning from a gas station in the 3200 block of Hickory Hill after a man stole the van they were in.

Officials tell Action News 5 an unknown subject took a vehicle, a 2000 Chevrolet Ventura van, at the gas station while two children were inside. Their mother, Latisha Moore, had just stepped inside the station.

"I guess he realized that nobody was in the van and he hopped in there and just drove right off with it," Moore said.

The man sped away down Knight Arnold, but stopped within two blocks.

"The vehicle stopped directly in front of me and I saw him literally kick the children out of the vehicle," Kimberly Flowerstrotter said. "On the street."

Moore was already giving chase on foot, and her children ran back to her.

"They ran across traffic coming over here trying to find me," she said.

The van raced away again, and police are still looking for the kidnapper. The van has a Tennessee license plate, with tag number 117 YLB.

Meanwhile, the children were not hurt, investigators said.

If you have information about the robbery that could help police, call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
