Military family gets big surprise at Tunica benefit concert

(WMC-TV) - A benefit concert at the Horseshoe Casino in Tunica, Mississippi Saturday night turned into an emotional reunion for one family.

The Better Life Foundation hosted the benefit concert, featuring multi-platinum rock band 3 Doors Down, but the surprise for one military family in attendance stole the show.

Sgt. Edward Raymond surprised his wife, Amber Raymond, who was picked to draw tickets for a raffle.

"I was nervous because they told me I was drawing tickets, but I was kind of upset because I didn't know he was coming home and I wanted him to be here for this," said Amber Raymond.

Edward Raymond said he was ordered to keep the secret from his wife, but it definitely was not easy.

"I've actually been home for a week," said Edward Raymond.

"Oh my God, a week," responded Amber Raymond.

Edward Raymond was stationed in Iraq for close to a year.  He said being home for the holidays with his family means everything.

"I'm so glad to be home with these girls," he said.

As a volunteer with the National Guard, Amber Raymond was chosen to draw a winner for the raffle contest, but said it felt amazing to walk away with the grand prize.

"Somebody thought that we deserved it, although all Army families would deserve a homecoming like this," she said.

"We were promised we'd be home for Thanksgiving and they made it happen, so we're all happy," said Edward Raymond.
