Police say Southaven teen shot his father

(WMC-TV) - Southaven police are investigating a shooting involving a teenager and his father in the DeSoto Woods community.

A 16-year-old apparently shot his father during a domestic situation at a home on Westminister Road.

Investigators said the father left the home and came back a short time later.  The 16-year-old reportedly got scared and shot his father twice.  A trail of blood could be seen on the steps of the home Sunday.

The shooting caught neighbor Clifford Adams off guard.

"All I heard was 'pop,'" said Adams.  "Sounded like somebody dropped a piece of metal or something."

Neighbors told Action News 5 the teen's parents were separated and the father was visiting.

"He shows up every so often," said Adams.

According to witnesses, the father somehow ended up at the nearby Horn Lake Fire Station where he was able to get medical attention.

"Obviously there was some things, issues going on that none of us know about," said neighbor Joshua Leggett.  "There were no warning signs or anything, and he was a nice kid.  You don't expect nothing like that."

Investigators have not confirmed if the 16-year-old is in police custody.  The father reportedly remains in critical condition.
