(WMC-TV) - Authorities believe a lightning strike is the likely cause of a Monday morning house fire in Cordova.
Late Monday morning, Gwen Gray was still stunned by the lightning strike that sparked a morning house fire at her sister's Cordova home.
"She heard a loud bang - a loud noise almost like somebody had dropped a tank or something," Gray said. "She didn't know if it came from her house or somewhere far away."
It happened in the 2700 block of Shady Well Cove just before 6:00 a.m. Monday. When fire crews arrived, heavy fire was shooting through the roof.
"They heard water dripping and it was rain coming from the ceiling," Gray said.
It took firefighters about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.
Thankfully, Gray said, her sister and her sister's friend managed to escape unharmed.
"She's not taking it too well, but she's glad she was able to get out in time," Gray said.
