(WMC-TV) – A Memphis man is recovering at the Med after he was shot Tuesday night by a man hiding out in his garage.
The 24 year old victim was returning to his home in the 800 block of Maury Street, when he was came face to face with his attacker.
Detectives say he was pulling into his garage just before midnight on Tuesday, but he did not know a man with a gun would be waiting.
The gunman tried to get the man to open up his house but it didn't work. The victim told the would-be robber that he didn't have the keys to the back door and that they would have to use the front door.
That's when police say the homeowner ran away. The suspect opened fire and hit the man in the right thigh.
Investigators are calling this an attempted robbery and attempted home invasion case.
The shooting victim is in non-critical condition at the Med.
The gunman is still on the loose. Police say he's about 6-feet 3-inches tall, about 20 years old and was wearing a gray hoodie and jeans.
Police say if you know anything that might help investigators call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
