MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - Cody Migliore has plenty of reasons to smile these days.
The Tipton-Rosemark Senior was one of only 180 players from across the country invited to try out for the USA 18 and Under Olympic National Team in Cary, North Carolina.
"It was crazy," said Migliore. "I remember going there early in the morning and going to the baseball field and my jaw dropping. Just seeing all those guys there trying to do the same thing I'm doing, kind of lit a fire underneath me, wanting me to do better."
More than 100 Colleges and all 30 MLB teams were represented at the tryouts.
"When you figure that probably the top 180 kids from across the country are going to be there, and he's one of them, that's a proud moment," said his father, Mike Migliore.
Baseball continues to take Cody Migliore all across the country. Coast to Coast Athletics selected him to play at the San Diego Padres Spring Training Complex in Arizona this December. During the summer, he will play in Puerto Rico through the program.
Baseball has provided Cody Migliore with experiences many can only dream about. When he was not playing baseball, he was at AutoZone Park working as the Redbirds' batboy for five seasons starting at age 12. He learned from the likes of future World Series MVP David Freese.
Two seasons ago, when the St. Louis Cardinals came to play the Redbirds, Cody Migliore was the personal assistant to Albert Pujols.
Now, the former batboy is taking his own swing at playing at the next level.
Anywhere I can get a good education on sports medicine and play the game of baseball, sign me up," he said.
Cody Migliore's coach, Rod Griggs, said his passion will be his greatest tool.
"He's got more heart than most of these guys," said Griggs. "It's going to be a great ride for him. And as long as he keeps that mentality, sky's the limit for him."
Cody Migliore said he is being looked at by Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Arkansas State. He is still waiting to hear if he made the cut for the Olympic National Team.
