(WMC-TV) - A Memphis father was in mourning Wednesday after a crash took the life of his son and a friend.
Philip Bollheimer Jr. never imagined he'd be preparing to lay his son to rest.
"As any parent knows, the worst thing that can happen to a parent is to bury a child," he said.
His son, 20-year-old Philip Bollheimer III, and his son's friend, 20-year-old Samuel Peursum, died late Tuesday night in a single vehicle crash on East Parkway South, near Madison Avenue.
Bollheimer III, who was driving, was traveling northbound on East Parkway South, approaching Madison Avenue, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree on the East side of East Parkway.
Bollheimer said his son was a graduate of Christian Brothers High School, and was currently attending the University of Memphis.
"He had an ambition since he was 12 years old to be a restaurateur, so he was learning the business side, and that's what he planned to do," Bollheimer said.
Bollheimer said his son was full of life, and had a bright future ahead of him.
"He was a good kid," he said. "He was really sweet and gentle. He called me Pops every time he left the house."
The crash is still under investigation.
