Memphis police charge man, mom in van theft

(AP) - Police in Memphis have charged both a man accused of stealing a van with two children in it and the mother who left it running at a fuel pump.

Carnell Hill of Memphis is charged with auto theft and two counts of aggravated kidnapping, according to The Commercial Appeal. Police said the 20-year-old Hill took the van on Nov.18 and kicked the 3-year-old children out in traffic two blocks away when he discovered them inside.

Police also issued misdemeanor child abuse and neglect citations against 25-year-old Lathisha R. Moore, who investigators said left the van running when she went into a convenience store to pay for gasoline.

Police found the van abandoned two days later and evidence in it led them to Hill.

Investigators said when they arrested Hill on Monday, he had keys to another vehicle that was stolen on Saturday.
