Prisoner escapes custody at The MED

(AP) - Authorities in Memphis are searching for a prisoner who escaped the Regional Medical Center.

Memphis police spokeswoman Alyssa Macon-Moore says 47-year-old Darryl Williams ran away from the hospital at about 2:45 p.m. Tuesday. Police prisoners who are injured are often treated at the Regional Medical Center, also known as the Med.

Moore says Williams ran toward Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, which is next door to the Med. Circumstances that led to the escape were not yet being released.

Williams had been arrested on a warrant for theft of property over $500 and burglary of a building.
