Family, friends honor life of murdered coach's wife

(WMC-TV) - Less than 48 hours after she was shot to death in her own home, family and friends gathered Wednesday night to honor the life of New Albany High School football coach's wife, Amanda Price.

Those who attended the visitation remembered Price as someone who meant so much to them.

"It's awful," said Amanda Barnett, a former classmate of Price.

Still at a loss for words, Barnett joined hundreds of family, friends and colleagues to honor Price's memory.

"She was an amazing person," said Barnett.  "The nicest person you would have ever met."

It was a packed house at Hillcrest Baptist Church with standing room only.

"It just shows the character of Mrs. Amanda," said student Terrance Riles.  "She was just that good of a person that everybody wanted to come and make sure they pay their last respects."

Investigators are still looking for the gunman who killed Amanda Price and wounded her husband, New Albany High School football coach Ron Price.  The shooting happened just before 10:00 p.m. Monday.

Investigators said Amanda Price went outside with their dog and startled someone in the backyard.  She began to scream and was shot.

Police said Ron Price was shot while responding to his wife's screams.

"I couldn't believe it would happen to her out of everybody I know," said student Boston Newsome.

Amanda Price was a speech pathologist for the New Albany School District.

"Every time you see her, she would always encourage you in words or say something nice," said student Terrance Riles.  "She'd always have something to tell coach Price, to tell us as a football team to make us play better or anything like that."

Amanda Price's funeral is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Hillcrest Baptist Church.  Coaches at New Albany High School will serve as pallbearers, with the high school football team serving as honorary pallbearers.
