(WMC-TV) – Police say an accused shoplifter tried to bribe his way out of jail Wednesday.
A loss prevention officer at Walmart, 3950 Austin Peay, called police after he spotted Artaveon McBee ripping open DVD cases and stuffing the discs in his jacket pocket, according to court records.
Police and store workers stopped McBee as he tried to leave the store, investigators say. As they detained him, McBee allegedly offered each of the officers $200 to let him go. However, McBee's appeals fell on deaf ears, according to police records.
He was charged with shoplifting and is being held on bribery and theft charges.
