(WMC-TV) - A man and a woman were found dead inside a residence in the 800 block of North Claybrook in Memphis Thursday.

According to Memphis police, officers were called to the location just before 3:00 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived, the officers found two people inside the residence, unresponsive.

An ambulance was called to the scene, and paramedics pronounced both victims dead.

Relatives tried to comfort Jeannette Bowen, who became worried when she could not get in touch with her 40-year-old son, James Rucker.  Bowen and her daughter came to the house on Claybrook around 2:30 p.m. Thursday to check on him.  She said the door was open.

"They had been shot," said Bowen.

Rucker's relatives said they do know the identity of the woman who was dead on the couch.  They said Rucker was shot in the head.  The woman was also shot.

A large crowd of onlookers, friends and relatives gathered hoping for some information as homicide detectives gathered evidence.

"It's like a dream," said Rucker's sister, JoAnne Wooten.  "I can't believe my brother is dead.  I can't believe someone took his life.  We don't know who did it."

Wooten said her brother did not have any enemies that she was aware of.  No one in the crowd that gathered appeared to know the identity of the woman shot.
