Otis Jackson holds fundraiser for reelection

(WMC-TV) - General Sessions Court Clerk Otis Jackson, who is off the job after being indicted on four counts of official misconduct, held a fundraiser for reelection Thursday.

Jackson is on paid suspension until December 31.  He was first elected in 2008, then later accused of coercing his employees while on the job to raise more than $50,000 for his reelection campaign.

"I am the court clerk of General Sessions," Jackson said Thursday.  "Until the court makes some type of decision, I'm going to be the clerk."

Jackson would not comment further on the indictment, citing legal reasons.  He told Action News 5 he believes he will be vindicated when he is back in court in January.

Jackson will be on the ballot in March of 2012.
