(WMC-TV) - A high profile Memphis attorney needed a lawyer himself Monday after being charged with DUI.
Memphis lawyer Michael Montesi waived his arraignment appearance in court Monday morning and hired attorney Leslie Ballin to represent him.
"We waived our appearance in court and we entered a not guilty plea and I showed up for him and the case was reset," said Ballin.
Officers arrested Montesi Friday night after his vehicle collided with another. When officers arrived Montesi appeared unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol, according to the police report.
"You know, I've heard that before in DUI cases - unsteady on his feet; blood shot, watery eyes; slurred speech," said Ballin. "It's like stock language. We will see what it is. We'll see if there is video tape of the event. If so, that will get to the truth of the matter."
Ballin said the next step is to get the results of blood alcohol test investigators performed on his client.
"The case was re-set to February 21," he said. "Between now and then we'll be working on the case…I need to look at the wrecked vehicles. I understand that it was a pretty severe impact."
Ballin said Montesi was not feeling well following the crash and the media attention that's going along with it.
"Oh, he's a plaintiff's lawyer dealing with civil law and injury cases and now he sees himself as a defendant in a criminal case, albeit it a misdemeanor, something he is as concerned about as you or I would," he said.
