(WMC-TV) - Police say an accused drunk driver crashed into a utility pole this weekend, sending electrical wires crashing down on an officer's squad car.
Officers say Jose Gomez was driving near the intersection of Winchester and Clearbrook when he ran into the pole. Electrical wires fell onto the street and across Officer Ned Aufdenkamp's car, according to court records.
Gomez, 27, fled the scene, officers said, but he was eventually caught inside a nearby condominium complex.
Gomez is facing a long list of charges including refusal to submit to a breath alcohol test, DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
Officer Aufdenkamp was treated at the scene of the crash and released.
