(AP) - A Paragould elementary school has decorated a bulletin board with a scene depicting the birth of Jesus, with a superintendent saying if someone has to be offended, it shouldn't be the Christian majority in the community.
Greene County Tech Primary School counselor Kay Williams had posted a nativity scene, but Superintendent Jerry Noble received two complaints and told her to take it down. Williams put the scene back up Monday with Noble's permission.
The superintendent told the Paragould Daily Press that if the district has to offend someone, it would rather not offend people who have Christian beliefs.
The school district's lawyer, Donn Mixon, said he advised Noble to leave the decorations down. He said a court could find the decorations improper if Williams put them up for religious purposes.
