Anonymous donors help Crime Stoppers with dog fighting tips

(WMC-TV) - Two anonymous Memphis residents are working to put a stop to dog fighting with their wallets.

They donated money to Crime Stoppers to bring in tips that will lead to the arrests of those involved in dog fighting.

People who provide information will get a $1,000 reward.  The rewards are larger than most Crime Stoppers rewards, which top out at $500.

The donors thought a higher reward would encourage more tips.

"It makes us look bad," said Crime Stoppers of Memphis Executive Director Buddy Chapman.  "It makes us look like a Third World community.  This is the thing they had in the Roman Colosseum, animals fighting each other.  Surely we have moved past that."

Chapman said this is an issue of protecting animals and public safety.  He said where you find dog fighting, you will often find gang activity and drugs.

To contact Crime Stoppers, call (901) 528-CASH.
