Chinese TV crew visits Memphis

(WMC-TV) - This week, a Chinese television crew landed in Memphis to feature our city on a broadcast that may reach a potential audience of more than 500 million people.

Memphis businessman Wei Chen welcomed the crew at the main terminal of Memphis International Airport while others held signs welcoming the team.

They're here to feature Wei Chen, a Chinese citizen who came to the University of Memphis to obtain an MBA in the '90s and stayed to create a Memphis based scaffolding and construction supply business called Sunshine Enterprises.

Wei captured the TV team's attention this summer by becoming the first Chinese born citizen to fly a general aviation aircraft around the world.

"They feel Memphis must be a good place because Chinese able to develop their careers, develop their business and develop society in Memphis," said interpreter John Chen.

The Memphis program will appear on Hunan television's Spring Festival TV show next year around the time of the Chinese New Year.

In addition to Wei Chen, retired NBA star Shaquille O'Neal will be featured on the same program.
