Fans, business owners excited about Grizzlies' return

(WMC-TV) - The Memphis Grizzlies returned to the court Friday night after the months-long NBA lockout.

The Grizzlies faced off against the New Orleans Hornets in the first preseason game of the shortened NBA season.

With the Grizzlies working again, waiters at Lunchbox Eats, a Downtown Memphis restaurant, are moving right along with the players.

"I'm so happy," said Lunchbox Eats owner Kaia Brewer.  "I was so happy when they said they would come back, so happy when they said December 16 was the first game, because I knew it would bring people downtown."

Lunchbox Eats on Fourth Street is so close to FedEx Forum that people park in front of the restaurant and often go in to eat before the game.

"The forum, you will have chicken fingers and hamburgers and plain old stadium food," said Brewer.  "We have something a little different that would give them something better to eat."

The scene was the same at Local, a restaurant on Main.  There, the excitement was palpable.  Manager Derk Meitzler said it is only going to get better as the games continue.

"We will get a big influx before the game, people trying to eat, drink, and then after, especially if they are in a good mood," said Meitzler.

The lockout was an economic drought for many Downtown Memphis businesses.
