(WMC-TV) – One suspect has been charged in the murder of Amanda Price, the wife of the New Albany High School football coach, who was shot while standing in her own back door.

New Albany Mississippi Police have charged 20-year-old Craig Baker with one count of capital murder, one count of aggravated assault and two counts of burglary of an automobile.

Baker is one of several people who authorities said were persons of interest in connection with the death of Amanda Price.

"It was two other individuals involved in the burglary of some automobiles," said David Grisham, New Albany police chief. "They were not along at the time the invasion of the Price home occurred."

Amanda Price was shot to death December 5t when she stepped out the back door of her home. Her husband, New Albany High School football coach Ron Price, was shot in the shoulder.

Authorities believe Baker acted alone. They said it was an attempted home invasion and burglary and that Baker did not know the Price's.

"He did not know whose house he was at," Grisham said. "He had no idea."

Investigators said they've also recovered two weapons, one of which had been stolen during a prior automobile break-in.

"There was a rifle stolen out of a vehicle," the police chief said. "It was recovered and a .380 handgun was recovered from the mobile (home) where Craig Baker was residing."

Police said Baker has a lengthy criminal record and now authorities are hoping these latest charges will help bring the family some much needed closure.
