Attorney discusses Southaven mayor's next move

(WMC-TV) - Southaven's Board of Aldermen met behind closed doors Tuesday night to talk about the more than $40,000 in receipts related to Mayor Greg Davis' spending.

The aldermen had no comment on what was discussed.

"Since it is an ongoing investigation, we are not making a public statement tonight," said Alderman Greg Guy.

"I did not attend the meeting," said Davis' attorney, Steve Farese.  "I only know what I read in the paper."

Farese talked to Action News 5 by phone about what is next for Davis.

"My role will be if the government has any questions, I would meet with the government and try to answer their questions or try to see what their concerns are and make a recommendation on whether my client and I would like to meet with them to allay those concerns," said Farese.

Davis charged the city for thousands of dollars worth of food and liquor, as well as making a purchase at an adult store in Canada.

According to Farese, Davis has repaid about $96,000 of the more than $170,000 he was ordered to repay.

Davis is reportedly hoping the receipts reviewed by auditors would help reduce the amount if aldermen agreed they represented legitimate expenses.

"The auditor's office is still looking at receipts that have been turned in to make a determination of whether they are valid or not valid," said Farese.
