Formerly homeless family receives mobile home, appliances

(WMC-TV) - A Mid-South family will now have a roof over their heads this Christmas and beyond thanks to the goodwill of strangers.

Several members of the Mayer family of Munford, Tennessee were reportedly living in a truck before a church and construction company donated a double-wide.  There are also new appliances for the home and holiday presents for the family's five children.

"Yes, we got appliances," said Vicki Mayer.  "I did not expect all of this to happen."

A designer at Signature Kitchens in Memphis heard about the needs of Mayer's formerly homeless family.  They could not afford to outfit the kitchen in their donated mobile home.

"I went to my VP and said there's a family we need to help," said Missy Monzo-Marte with Signature Kitchens.  "I don't want to get them a good deal, I want to get them appliances for Christmas."

Monzo-Marte also helped make sure Mayer's five children had a special Christmas as well.

"They were just willing to open their pocketbooks and help me in my quest to help this family get a Christmas," she said.

"She surprised me with a Christmas and appliances paid for, and so I thank you God," said Mayer.  "This is a miracle."

In addition to a new fridge, range, and dishwasher, the Mayer family received household items and plenty of toys.
