Memphis attorney Steve Farese talks allegations against Bobby Dodd

(WMC-TV) - Memphis attorney Steve Farese has been hired by Bobby Dodd, the former Amateur Athletic Union president, to defend him against allegations of sexual abuse.

"He's embarrassed to go out in public," said Farese.  "He feels like people are talking about him when they may not be."

Dodd is accused of sexually assaulting two boys in the 1980's when they were between the ages of 12 and 16.  They said it happened while Dodd was the director of the YMCA in Memphis.

"What does he say about all of this?  That it is pure fantasy," said Farese.  "That he doesn't understand why this has come up at this time."

Farese said Dodd is recovering from colon cancer and has not been charged at this time.

The accusations came from the players who talked to ESPN.  One of the allegations made my players is that Dodd masturbated next to their beds when the players were on the road.

Farese said that could not have happened.

"You just don't put kids in rooms by themselves on the road," said Farese.

Farese said he is checking into the background of Dodd's accusers.  He would not say what he has discovered.

Memphis Police and the District Attorney are also looking into the allegations.
