(WMC-TV) - Investigators have released the identity of a woman who was killed as she rode her bike in Hernando, Mississippi early Thursday morning.

Police said 55-year-old James 'Jimmy' Allen Whitten, Jr. hit and intentionally killed 24-year-old Sara Dabney Jones as she rode her bike along Oak Grove Road in Hernando.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that Whitten and Jones were in a relationship.

A source told Action News 5 that Jones may have been riding her bike at 3:00 a.m. because she was trying to get away from Whitten.

In Shelby County, Whitten has an extensive record, including drug trafficking, assault with the intent to commit murder, and statutory rape.

A woman who works at a bail bonding company in DeSoto County did not want to be identified, but confirmed Whitten does occasionally do handy work for the business.

"His daddy owns this building, we do not work for him," said the woman.

Whitten is being held in a DeSoto County jail.  No bond has been set.
