Woman drives herself to gas station after being shot

(WMC-TV) - A Memphis woman shot at least four times Thursday night was still able to drive herself to a gas station for help.

Police found the woman at a Mapco station in the 3700 block of Jackson Avenue.

Investigators are not releasing the name of the 19-year-old woman and have not said whether or not they have any suspects.

Residents in the area said they want to see a decrease in crime in their community.

"I really hate that," said neighbor Jamie Pennington.  "If it happened over here or even if they just dropped her off over here that's still, you know, that's not good at all.  People, it's about to be 2012, if people don't get God in their life, they ain't going to have anybody."

Investigators are still trying to determine where the victim was initially shot, but said she was able to drive herself to the gas station parking lot and dial 911.

The 19-year-old was transported in critical condition.

Police are asking anyone who has information about this shooting to come forward or call Crime Stoppers at (901) 528-CASH.
